Not many people know about legal protection insurance (rechtsbijstandsverzekering) It is generally additional insurance attached to the car insurance. I want to briefly mention that especially for traffic tickets or traffic accidents if you go to the court (politierechtbank) your policy usually has to cover the costs of attorney insurance.

What you need to do, is to ask the insurer for legal protection insurance (rechtsbijstandsverzekering) if you have any insurance.

When you have farreaching legal protection (familie verzekering) the costs of lawyers and litigation are also covered by your insurance when you are victimized in a traffic accident, as a pedestrian or bicycle driver.

When you are called to the police court (politierechtbank), your Belgian lawyer may contact you with your insurer and ask if the costs are covered.
